Mosquito Authority Locations Offer Free Initial Mosquito Treatments for Expectant Mothers
In April 2016, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed the link between mosquito-borne Zika virus and microcephaly, a birth defect causing infants to be born with abnormally-small heads and brains.
Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant have been cautioned not to travel to Zika-affected areas and, when necessary, to use protection in order to prevent sexual transmission of the virus. Because Zika is spread by mosquitoes, pregnant women should also take care to prevent being bitten.
So far there have been no locally-transmitted cases of Zika in the United States. All cases have been travel-related. However, the Aedes mosquitoes that carry the virus are present here and experts say more than 30 states are at risk for Zika transmission in coming months.
While nothing can eliminate the risk of mosquito-borne disease entirely, getting rid of mosquitoes in the places you spend most of your time – your own yard – can reduce the risk of getting bitten and contracting the virus.
Since our mosquito treatments can do just that, Mosquito Authority locations have offered FREE initial treatments to expectant mothers.
In the event a service like ours is unavailable to you, please be sure to DRAIN standing water where mosquitoes breed, DRESS in long sleeves and long pants when necessary and DEFEND yourself and your family with an EPA-registered repellent such as DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.
