Celebrate National Grandparents Day

Celebrate National Grandparents Day

National Grandparents Day is coming up on September 13th, and we want to help you celebrate! Although COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines might make it difficult to celebrate the day exactly as you had planned, there are still plenty of ways to show your love and appreciation for the grandmas and grandpas in your life. However, we know that you and your family might not be able to physically be together due to COVID-19, so we’ve put together some ideas for those who are together and those who are apart.

If you are spending the day together:

1. Homemade brunch

Brunch is a good idea at any time of the year, so make it even more special by turning it into a Grandparents Day celebration at home. Fixing brunch is a great way for grandkids and grandparents to spend time together and then afterward you can enjoy the meal as a family!

2. Plant a flower garden

If you have some space in your yard for a few more flowers, have your kids do some gardening with their grandparents. They’ll have a great time planting the flowers, and it’s a gift that will keep on growing!

3. Start a new tradition

What better way for grandchildren to spend the day than starting a new tradition with their grandparents? Whether it be baking cookies or reading a story together, starting a new tradition will create lasting memories for years to come.

4. Complete (or at least start) a puzzle together

Puzzles are hardly any fun without someone by your side, so why not make it a Grandparents Day bonding activity? Word searches, jigsaw puzzles, and crosswords are all good options!

If you are spending the day apart:

1. Spend some virtual time together

It might not sound that special, but if you can’t be with your loved ones due to COVD-19, set up a FaceTime or Zoom call with the grandparents in your life. Your kids will still get to see grandma and grandpa, and you can even have a virtual dinner together!

2. Send homemade cards

Crafting homemade cards is a thoughtful way to show someone how much you appreciate them, even when you’re not together. This is a great way for kids to express their creativity while also telling their grandparents how much they mean to them.

3. Recreate an old picture

Photographs last a lifetime and make for great memories. If you have a favorite photo with your parents, try recreating it with your own kids to create a new memory for their grandparents. You can even take it further by sending the picture along with a homemade card from your kids!

4. Make a family tree

Making a family tree is a great opportunity for kids to spend time with their grandparents while learning some family history. No worries if you can’t be together, because this can be done over the phone or on a virtual call!

National Grandparents Day is an opportunity for grandchildren and grandparents to bond, together or apart. We hope you try out some of these ideas and make this the best Grandparents Day yet!
